Alabama’s Davis Riley Advances to Match Play at 2018 U.S. Amateur Championship
Alabama men’s golfer Davis Riley finished stroke play at the 2018 United States Amateur Championship tied for 24th overall with a 36-hole total of 1-over par 144 (74-70). As a result, the Crimson Tide senior is one of 64 golfers to advance to the match play portion of the event, which begins on Wednesday.
Fellow Alabama golfer Davis Shore also competed at this year’s championship but fell short of reaching match play. Shore, a rising sophomore, tied for 128th overall in the 312-man field with a two-day total of seven-over par 150 (74-76).
Following Wednesday's round, two rounds of match play will take place on Thursday to determine Friday's quarterfinalists. Tee times, pairings and live stats can be found at USGA.org.
Riley, who will be entering his senior season at Alabama this fall, is playing in his fifth U.S. Amateur. In 2016, the Hattiesburg, Miss., native advanced to the round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur at Oakland Hills after he matched a North Course record with a round of 64 in stroke play.
