Alabama senior men’s golfer Davis Riley is one 20 individuals named to the initial Fred Haskins Award Watch List, which was announced by Golfweek on Friday. Riley, a two-time All-American who is coming off a second-place finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in the Tide’s season opener last weekend, is ranked No. 4 in the initial Haskins Award Watch List of the fall.

The Haskins Award is the oldest college golf award (dating back to 1971) and is the only award that is voted on by players, coaches, sports information directors, and select golf media - there is no committee that makes this decision. Voting will open at the end of the NCAA Regionals and run through the end of the NCAA Tournament.

Riley, who was ranked as the top golfer in the nation early last season and finished the year ranked No. 22, helped lead the Crimson Tide to a runner-up finish at the 2018 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships. He earned first team all-district honors and was tabbed a third-team All-American.

Over the summer, Riley continued his stellar play from his junior season. After a runner-up finish at the prestigious Western Am, the Hattiesburg, Miss., native reached the quarterfinals of match play at the 2018 U.S. Amateur Championship.

Riley and the Crimson Tide will be in action this weekend when they compete at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational. Riley is the defending champion at the event, which is played on the famed Olympia Fields North Course, carding a career-best tournament total of 10-under par 200.
