Former Alabama head coach Anthony Grant will return to college basketball as the new head coach of Dayton, the school announced on Thursday.

Grant, who played for the Flyers in the 80s, takes over for Archie Miller after he left for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Grant moved to Tuscaloosa following the departure of Mark Gottfried and led the Crimson Tide to a 117-85 record over six seasons. That also included the school's last trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2012 which ended in a one-point loss to Creighton in the round of 64. Alabama also earned three NIT invitations under Grant.

When Bill Battle decided to change directions with the basketball program and bring in Avery Johnson, Grant moved on to the NBA as an assistant coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder under Billy Donovan.

Grant will now take the lead at his alma mater Dayton, which has made four straight NCAA Tournament appearances and won two straight A10 regular season championships.
