Following Auburn's disappointing 20-10 loss to Georgia this weekend, the team's senior running back, who was also one of the Tigers' team captains, was let go from the team on Monday, according to Auburn's head coach, Hugh Freeze.

On Monday, following the Tigers' first practice of the week, Hugh Freeze told the media that Senior running back Damari Alston would no longer be a part of the program.

"Damari failed to meet the expectations and standards of our program. We love him. Wish him the best." Freeze said in his press conference on Monday.

Alston, who was a part of the Tigers' 2022 class, was expected to have a breakout season this year, but a shoulder injury against Baylor hindered his progress. The senior running back only participated in four games this season. In the season opener against Baylor, he rushed for 84 yards on 16 carries and scored one touchdown. However, after that game, he struggled to find his rhythm, managing only 16 carries for 44 yards in his last three games with the Tigers.

The senior running back's best season with the Tigers was in 2023, during which Alston rushed 64 times for 320 yards and two touchdowns, averaging five yards per carry while sharing the backfield with Jarquez Hunter, who is now a running back for the Los Angeles Rams.

Now that Alston is parting ways with the team, Jeremiah Cobb will be the primary back after already outshining Alston throughout the season, with Cobb rushing for 453 yards on 70 carries while averaging 6.5 yards per carry to go along with his four touchdowns on the season.

Hugh Freeze and his staff will look to prepare their 3-3 Tigers, who have had a rough three-game stretch against teams like Oklahoma and Texas A&M on the road, and Georgia at home this past week. Auburn will look to take down the Missouri Tigers and gain their first win of the season in conference play this Saturday, October 18th, at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
