Bama Extends Its Season Against Rider
After a close 3-1 victory over the Rider Broncs in the NCAA Baseball Ruston Regional, Alabama Baseball moves on and saves its season for another elimination game to take place on Sunday.
In the press conference after the win, coach Brad Bohannon said, "[I'm] Really excited to get our program's first regional win in quite some time. Dylan was just awesome. Just amazing."
Junior RHP Dylan Smith threw a complete game - the first of his career with Alabama - and allowed seven hits while only giving up one run en route to the season-saving victory. Smith also recorded seven strikeouts and no walks for the outing, bringing his season total to 113 K's.
"Every time I step on the mound I'm tryna go CG [complete game],” Smith said. "My job is to go out there and pitch as long as I can and give my team a chance to win, and that's what I did."
Sophomore outfielder Owen Diodati went 2-for-4 in Saturday's matchup, but it was sophomore William Hamiter's two-run blast in the bottom of the 7th inning that finally broke the lead for a Bama victory.
As Bama makes its way through the elimination bracket, they'll have to take on the loser of No. 16 LA Tech vs. NC State in a Sunday matchup starting at 2 p.m. CDT.
