This year's clash of SEC Championship Game favorites lived up to the preseason hype. In arguably one of the greatest games ever, Alabama vs. Florida set social media on fire. The battle of SEC rivals came down to the wire and the internet ate up every minute, every second and every play of the game.

Starting in the first quarter when the Crimson Tide's offense came out firing on all cylinders, it was looking like a blowout. By the end of the first quarter, even I was confident Alabama was going to run away with the game.

Florida's defense couldn't stop Alabama's offense from imposing its will early on. Some Gator fans were calling for the firing of defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.

On the Alabama side of things, after quarterback Bryce Young threw three first quarter touchdowns, he looked well onto a career in his road start in the SEC.

Things would change in the second half as Florida quarterback Emory Jones led a 99-yard touchdown drive to pull the Gators within five. Then 'Bama fans gave Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding the same harsh treatment Grantham received in the first half.

It was nice to see someone recognize how well Florida played against the number one team after the doubters early in the game.

As a Alabama fan, I walked away from the game with mixed emotions, some positive and some negative. The son of Martin Houston (host of The Martin Houston Show and former Alabama fullback) Xavier Houston, shared his thoughts on Facebook on his X's and O's Sports Podcast page.

"1. Feed BRob the ball consistently. He’ll win late in games.

2. Owens is good but it’s out of position. Move him back inside and give Latham or George a chance.

3. Bryce needs to use his legs as more than an play extender and run the ball.

4. Get Tim Smith in on passing situations

5. Play Jaylen Moody more in passing situations

6. Hellams might be a weakness look at Branch in that slot.

7. WRAP UP. Stop arm tackling.

8. Stop with the mental mistakes

Social Media made its voice heard in this week of college football and can't wait until next week when the Crimson Tide hosts the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles at 6:30 p.m. CST in Bryant-Denny Stadium which will air on the SEC Network.

The Alabama Crimson Tide 2021 Defense

The Alabama Crimson Tide led the SEC in scoring defense in 2020 holding opponents to 19.4 points per game. The Tide is expected to be even stronger on defense this fall, returning several starters from last year and an impactful transfer.
