Big 12 Announces 2020 Fall Schedule
The Big 12 is moving forward with a 2020 fall football season despite the Big 10 and Pac-12 officially announcing they would not play. The conference athletic directors met last night to approve a schedule that was released today. The Big 12 will start its conference season on September 26 coinciding with the SEC's start date.
The conference is still finalizing who the non-conference opponents will be, but according to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, the conference will play its one non-conference opponent on either September 12 or 19.
The conference currently has its championship game scheduled for December 12, one week prior to the SEC's scheduled championship game. The conference has built in a possibility to delay the season until October 10 if need be and have it's championship game on December 19.
Week 1: Kansas @ Baylor
Texas @ Texas Tech
West Virginia @ Oklahoma State
Kansas State @ Oklahoma
Iowa State @ TCU
The prominent Red River rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma is still scheduled for its original date October 10. While the Texas State Fair is cancelled, the game will still be held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
Bedlam between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State is scheduled on November 21 in Stillwater.
The schools are playing a nine game, conference schedule with one additional non-conference game. Each school's non-conference opponent is still to be determined. There are two open weeks for each school with the potential for a third if the conference championship game is moved to December 19.
Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby released a statement acknowledging the conference's responsibility to provide a safe environment for the athletes to compete in.
