Birmingham Bowl: First Half Update
The first half of the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl has come to an end. The matchup between East Carolina and Coastal Carolina currently sits at 24-14 in favor of ECU.
The two quarterbacks have been the stars of the show up until this point. ECU's Holton Ahlers currently sits at 17-22 passing for 213 yards and two touchdowns. Both touchdowns were to fellow senior wide receiver Isaiah Whitehead.
Coastal's quarterback Grayson McCall has been solid as well completing 11-14 passes for 75. He also has 12 yards and a touchdown on the ground, but on his touchdown run was injured and replaced by Jarrett Guest at quarterback midway through the second quarter.
The other score for ECU came on a one yard rush from running back Keaton Mitchell. Mitchell has tallied 109 yards on the ground with a long of 46 yards to lead all rushers in the game.
Penalties have been an issue for both teams early on. ECU has eight penalties totaling 100 total yards and Coastal Carolina has five penalties for 45 yards.
