Amid all of the controversy surrounding the quarterback position when Bryce Young inevitably departs for the NFL, there has been discussion about bringing in a transfer quarterback to fill the vacancy. However, there is one man that has not been discussed in regards to who that transfer should be.

This man is three-time Sun Belt Player of the Year Grayson McCall, who has been one of the most prolific quarterbacks in college football the past three seasons since he arrived on the scene.

McCall has led his team, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers to a record of 28-4 over his time with the program. During that time, he has amassed 8019 yards passing and 78 touchdowns to go along with those throws.

The thing that stands out about McCall is efficiency above all else. Over the course of his career, he has been completing passes at a clip of 70.4 percent and currently sits in the top three for passing efficiency in all of FBS with a 173.11 rating. The only two quarterbacks ahead of him in this regard are Heisman Trophy candidates CJ Stroud of Ohio State and Hendon Hooker of Tennessee.

His sophomore season broke the FBS record for passing efficiency where his 207.6 rating passes the previous two records held by Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Mac Jones and LSU quarterback Joe Burrow. Both players went on to win national championships and finish as Heisman Trophy finalists, Burrow taking home the award.

This efficient mark has not been reach by throwing check downs and opting for safe routes to throw. McCall loves the deep ball.

He currently sits top four in passing yards per attempt at 9.24 yards per attempt behind the two players mentioned before and fellow Sun Belt quarterback Todd Centeio who did so at a much less efficient clip.

McCall is not just a pure pocket passer in terms of how quarterbacks are evaluated. He also possesses the athleticism to make plays when things are not on schedule and be effective as a runner. During his career, he has totaled 1053 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground.

The speculation of McCall's potential transfer comes off of the heels of Coastal Carolina head coach Jamey Chadwell's decision to leave the school and take the job at Liberty.

Without the head coach that brought him into the program, college football fans could expect to see McCall leave in favor of a Power 5 school to help boost his draft stock during his senior season.

With Young likely leaving the Crimson Tide, the next two in line for the job seem to be Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson, but a poor performance in the Allstate Sugar Bowl from either could open the door for Saban to bring in a player to fill the role.

For those looking to get a chance to watch McCall play in person, he is going to be starting in the Birmingham Bowl against East Carolina at 5:45 CST on December 27.
