Bob Baumhower Remembers Don Shula
Bob Baumhower joined The Jay Barker Show today to remember his late, legendary coach Don Shula. Baumhower played for Shula with the Dolphins from 1977-986. Baumhower made five Pro-Bowls, named First Team All-Pro two times and Second Team All-Pro three times with the Dolphins. You can hear the entire interview on the Tide 100.9 Youtube Page.
Baumhower had planned to visit Shula once the pandemic had ended. He grew up a Dolphins fan, Baumhower called playing for Shula, "a dream come true."
Baumhower compared Shula to his college coach Bear Bryant. He said they structured their teams similarly and had similar aspirations for their teams to win championships. He called them both caring coaching and family men.
Baumhower laughed about coach Shula sharing Buffalo wings with his players prior to playing the Buffalo Bills. He called that partly the inspiration for Baumhower's Wings.
