Bryce Young had a Season-High Performance Against the Chiefs

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Despite a 30-27 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Bryce Young left many impressed with his performance. Including head coach Dave Canales, who has decided to name him as the starter for Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This will mark Young's fifth consecutive start this season. “I mean, yeah, I don’t have to make any statements. He’s makin’ it for himself,” Canales said. “He’s continued to show us the progress we’re lookin’ for, bringing our skill players to life,” he added when asked if Young should be the guy moving forward.

Young and the Panthers began chipping away at the Chiefs' lead as Young put them in position to gain two field goals, making the score 13-6 before the second quarter. By the end of the first quarter, Young had completed 6/7 completions for 107 yards.

As the Panthers tried to create touchdown plays before the half, the Chiefs ultimately stopped them, holding them to only three field goals, with the score 20-9 at halftime. This left Young and the Panthers needing to ignite some magic in the second half.

And that is exactly what occurred. Young created an impressive drive to start the third quarter, which led to a touchdown pass to David Moore, bringing the score to 20-16. Of course, Patrick Mahomes and his squad responded quickly with a touchdown pass, making the score 27-16 as they entered the fourth quarter.

Despite the challenges that occurred in the fourth quarter, the Panthers began making a comeback with under two minutes to play. Young passed the ball off to Chuba Hubbard, tying the score to 27-27. As seen in his college days, Young has a knack for making things happen in the final minutes of a game, and it seemed like his college play was starting to break through to threaten the two-time Super Bowl champions.

Unfortunately, 1:46 was more than enough time for the Chiefs to create drives that would get their kicker in field goal range. With the clock down to 0:38, the Chiefs settled for a field goal to win it.

Despite the loss, Young had a season-high day against a top-five defense. He finished with 21/35 completions for 263 yards, one touchdown, and no turnovers. This added to his growth since being benched in week three. In the last three games, he has won two out of three and went on to take the Chiefs to the brink.

With this performance, he joined Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow as the only quarterbacks to record 25 or more points against the Chiefs this season.

As the Panthers' season progresses, they are hopeful to see more growth and stellar performances from Young.
