Bryce Young On Offensive Line Transfer Addition: “It’s Huge”
In a media availability on Tuesday, junior Alabama quarterback Bryce Young spoke on the addition of star transfer portal pickup OT Tyler Steen from Vanderbilt.
With the offensive line being a weakness to address from last season, Young was excited about the new addition.
"It’s really big. Anytime we can get help at a position like that, it’s huge," said Young.
"This spring has been really, really tough on our offensive linemen with us having the small amount of numbers that we’ve had throughout practice... It’s definitely going to help our depth. I’m excited for him to come in. So, I trust us and I trust everything."
Steen was a three-star recruit out of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2018 and held offers from Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisviille and Mississippi State. The 6-foot-5 315-pound senior offensive tackle has one year of NCAA eligibility remaining.
At Vanderbilt, Steen made 25 appearances with 20 starts across four seasons.
Alabama's offensive line lost two major contributors in the 2022 offseason with Chris Owens graduating and Evan Neal expected to be a first-round pick in the NFL Draft.
Steen is the fourth noticeable transfer to pick Alabama as a landing spot for 2022-2023 including LSU's Eli Ricks. Georgia Tech's Jahmyr Gibbs and Jermaine Burton from national champion Georgia.
