Burnip Wins Weekly Ray Guy Award
There is a lot of confusion this football season as College Football continues. As many awards are given to the best-performing players throughout the season, Alabama punter James Burnip wins the Ray Guy Award for week seven. With 25 punts this season averaging 45.8 yards a punt with his longest being 64 yards, James Burip has a fairly decent stat line in the punter's position. The 6'6 senior from Mount Macedon, Victoria, traveled from Australia to play with the Alabama Crimson Tide, an essential piece to the special team's operations.
James Burnip Stats
Burnip was rated by prokicker.com as a 4.5-star punter in his class coming out of high school. In 2021, Burnip won the starting position punting for 1,878 yards on 48 attempts. In 2022, Burnip put on an equally stellar performance of 1,861 yards on 44 punts and was also selected as special teams player of the week by the UA coaching staff twice that season.
Last season Burnip put up 2,806 yards on 59 punts while also serving as the placeholder for field goal kicks. A punter who is well deserving of this award as he has only progressed each season.

Ray Guy Award
For those that do not know or have never heard: The Ray Guy Award is presented annually to college football's most outstanding punter. It is named after punter Ray Guy, an All-American for Southern Mississippi and an All-Pro in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders.
In regards to the explanation by www.rayguyaward.com, "The Ray Guy Award - named for football's premier punter - honors the nation's best collegiate punter in the FBS. The Augusta Sports Council (ASC) created the award in 2000. Along with other awards such as the Heisman Trophy and the Doak Walker Award, the Ray Guy Award honors an important member of any football team. The ASC presents the award live on The Home Depot College Football Awards broadcast on ESPN."
Congratulations to James Burnip on another accomplishment added to his career portfolio.
