Cleminson graduated from Michigan State University in 2018 and earned his master's in East Lansing in 2020. He has previously spent time working for Michigan State under Mark Dantonio, and also has made a stop at Cincinnati under former head coach Luke Fickell, where he was a graduate assistant with the Bearcats. During his time with Michigan State in 2018, the Spartans had the No. 1 rushing defense in the country.

Cleminson has been with South Alabama as the inside linebackers coach since 2024, where he coached All-Sun Belt linebacker Blayne Myrik, who had 101 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, and a pick-six for the Jaguars. He also coached Darius McKenzie, who totaled 72 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, four pass breakups, and a fumble recovery.

According to Hummer, Cleminson is considered a young coach on the rise in college football. He will join the Crimson Tide's coaching staff as an assistant outside linebackers coach. During the 2023 season at South Alabama, Cleminson worked with outside linebackers in a similar role to what he'll hold at Alabama.
