Can Kirby Get A Win Against Alabama

Although Georgia and Alabama are a rivalry game that everyone can not wait for, there is another rivalry that came to a close with Nick Saban retiring at the end of last season. With Kalen Deboer taking over the Crimson Tide, can he coach his team to win against Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs?

Smart, since taking over Georgia in 2016 has lost to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide a total of 5 times. Kirby Smart has only lost 16 games since taking over the Head Coaching position with 97 wins, two national championships, and three national championship appearances. Although the University of Alabama leads the all-time series 43-26-4, Georgia beat Alabama 33-18 in the 2022 national championship game which gave the Bulldogs their first championship trophy since 1980.

During Nick Saban's career at Alabama, he has an 8-2 record against the Bulldogs. Smart was with Alabama for nine years and spent 7 as the defensive coordinator. During his time at Alabama under Nick Saban, Smart won three BCS National Championships, six SEC Titles, and three SEC crowns, and was recognized as the AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2012—there are many more accomplishments for Smart throughout his Career as a coach.

Kalen Deboer has a challenge with facing such a prestigious coach as Kirby Smart. This Saturday's game starts conference play for the Crimson Tide as two undefeated teams are looking to keep their seasons alive. The Crimson Tide are coming off of a bye week after beating the Wisconsin Badgers 42-10 at Camp-Randall Stadium in their last game.
