CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee Discusses His Conversation with Former Alabama QB Blake Barnett
Coming out of high school, Blake Barnett came to the University of Alabama with high expectations, but as Jalen Hurts emerged as the clear starter Barnett had to come to the decision to transfer out of Tuscaloosa.
Barnett would go to Arizona State, but once again couldn't win the starting job over Manny Wilkins so now the college journeymen has transferred to his third team and will join head coach Charlie Strong at USF.
Barnett spoke with CBS Sports college football analyst Barrett Sallee on transferring out of Alabama.
"It's not that I don't want to be here," Barnett said he told Nick Saban when he decided to transfer. "But I want to play. I want to make the best decisions I can for my career."
He also talked about his setback at Alabama which was a 'illness' he suffered during his freshman season.
"I had half the amount of blood in my system than I was supposed to," Barrett said to CBS Sports. "I lost about 20 pounds from the medical issues and lost about another week of practice time after that. When I came back, I went straight back to the scout team."
Sallee joined The Game with Ryan Fowler to discuss his conversation with Barnett regarding transferring from Alabama and Arizona State and looking forward to his opportunity at USF. He also discussed Tua Tagovailoa's comments regarding wanting to transfer and what the future holds for Alabama at quarterback.
