Catch These Five Classic Movies at the Bama Theatre This Summer
The Tuscaloosa Arts Council hosts its summer movie series “Nostalgic Blockbusters” on select Tuesday nights in June and July.
Audiences can catch the first screening tomorrow, June 6, at 7 p.m. in the Bama Theatre. The series will kick off with “Jaws,” considered by Guinness World Records to be the first summer blockbuster.
Four more classic films will follow, with a week off for Independence Day. Here’s the full schedule:
- June 6: Jaws
- June 13: The Goonies
- June 20: E.T. The Extra-Terrestial
- June 27: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
- July 11: Back to the Future
According to Kevin Ledgewood, who runs publicity for The Arts Council, the nostalgia focus for the series was picked because the Arts Council wanted to “try something a little different, a little new.”
Ledgewood confirmed that the “response from general public has been very positive,” especially from Tuscaloosa locals who grew up with these films.
Tickets can be purchased in person at the Bama Theatre box office prior to each showing.
All showtimes are 7 p.m. and doors open at 6 p.m. The Bama Bar will also open at 6 p.m. and will feature soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, popcorn and candy.
Ticket prices range according to individual status:
- General Audiences: $10
- Students and Seniors: $9
- Arts Council Members: $8
Guests can also purchase a season pass punch card for $70. This punch card is good for 10 individual screenings, plus can be used for multiple guests at a single showing.
