New Orleans, La. - On Wednesday, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe faced a tough question regarding his NFL future.

Milroe, the starting quarterback over the last two seasons at Alabama, struggled in the passing game during the 2024 season - throwing for 2,844 yards and just 16 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.

Milroe entered the Senior Bowl with significant buzz as one of the most highly-watched prospects going into the week. By the end of the week, scouts and media moaned and groaned as Milroe struggled to throw to receivers - unable to throw on target or lead receivers into the catch. Multiple passes fluttered to the ground harmlessly on Saturday in the Senior Bowl game.

Milroe's rushing ability has been one of his best assets as a quarterback, but even that was nullified in the game, with Milroe ending the day with negative rush yardage due to three sacks given up by his offensive line.

While at Alabama, however, Milroe was always a threat to take off and gain significant yardage on the ground. He was the leading rusher for Alabama in 2024, carrying the ball himself for 726 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns.

Milroe's ability on the ground can not be understated, which begs the question many scouts brought up to me during the week of practice in Mobile - Could Milroe switch positions?

The obvious position would be running back.

It was a question Milroe faced during Super Bowl media week in New Orleans.

Chris Simms of NBC Sports asked Milroe that question on Wednesday. Milroe's response?

"You don’t ask a zebra to be a dog.”

Safe to say, Milroe will continue his training as a quarterback in preparation for the NFL draft in April.

Significant Dates Leading to the Draft

The NFL combine will begin on Thursday, February 27, although quarterbacks won't arrive in Indianapolis until Friday, March 1, and won't throw until Saturday, March 2.

It is unlikely Milroe will throw at the NFL Combine, although he is expected to work out and run the 40-yard dash. Milroe will dazzle the NFL world with his likely sub-4.4 40 time, and there is no doubt his personality will captivate NFL viewers.

Milroe will likely wait until Alabama's Pro Day (scheduled for March 26) to throw in a perfectly curated environment to receivers he knows and is comfortable with. It could also provide NFL scouts an early look at Germie Bernard (who will enter the 2026 NFL draft) and Ryan Williams (who will enter the 2027 NFL draft, barring unforeseen circumstances).

It will also provide CJ Dippre another chance to catch passes from Milroe to showcase his talents as a receiving threat at the next level.
