Ty Simpson’s First SEC Start Could Define Alabama’s Season
Alabama will experience its first conference opponent test of the season on Saturday against the Georgia Bulldogs. More importantly, quarterback Ty Simpson will lead the charge for the Crimson Tide for the first time as a starter against an SEC opponent.

To begin the season, the Crimson Tide faced some concerns after losing on the road in Tallahassee, Florida, against the Florida State Seminoles. However, the Crimson Tide appeared more poised and confident in Weeks 2 and 3.
Notably, Simpson performed better in those two weeks and was among the most successful passers in the nation for two consecutive weeks.
Simpson has started in three career games during his time at Alabama but has yet to start against an SEC opponent. This Saturday will be an opportunity for him and a major learning experience that could benefit him as a quarterback the remainder of conference play.
On Tuesday, Simpson spoke with media members ahead of his first career start against an SEC opponent. With a smile and a positive attitude, he expressed that he is blessed for this first-time experience and how he's excited for the opportunity.
"How different it is. I've played a Big Ten team, an ACC team, and a Group of Five team -kind of a little bit of everything - but I haven't gotten an SEC team. I've been in games in the SEC before, so I can understand a little bit, but it's different. We're going to be between the hedges in Athens, against a really good team - Georgia - with a really good defense, so I'm just really excited and blessed for the opportunity," Simpson said when asked what he hopes to learn in his first career start against an SEC opponent.
Through three weeks of college football, Simpson has achieved an impressive 862 total yards and is just 138 yards away from the 1,000 passing yard mark.
Notably, he completed 100% of his passes in Week 2 during the Crimson Tide's win over UL-Monroe and almost mirrored the same results in Alabama’s Week 3 win over Wisconsin, completing 24 of his 29 attempts for 382 yards.
Simpson has been playing exceptionally well and has been a force to be reckoned with since the loss to the Seminoles. However, he and his supporting cast will need to maintain the same rhythm on Saturday against the Bulldogs in order to walk away not only with a win but a positive lesson that could help them the remainder of the season.
