Another year has passed and former University of Alabama linebacker Derrick Thomas, posthumously, has been snubbed once again for the College Football Hall of Fame.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest linebackers in football history, Thomas a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, made a name for himself at the Capstone, joining Cornelius Bennett and Keith McCants to form one of the best defensive fronts in college football in the late 80’s. Always an effective pass rusher, the Miami, Florida native etched his name into the record books in 1988 when he registered a NCAA record 27 sacks, earning a Butkus Award and 10th place finish in the Heisman Trophy balloting.

After his record setting 1988 season in Tuscaloosa, Thomas was chosen by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1989 with the fourth pick overall in the NFL draft.

During his time in Kansas City, Thomas picked up right where he left off winning Defensive Rookie of the Year and a trip to the Pro Bowl in his first season.  In his 10 year career Thomas would visit the Pro Bowl 9 more times while accumulating 126.5 sacks, 12th in NFL History.

Thomas, who died in February of 2000 from complications after a car accident was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009, his fifth year of eligibility.

The snub has come as a surprise to many in the college football world took to twitter following the announcement:
