Former Alabama Quarterback Ty Simpson Signs Rookie Contract with Los Angeles Rams

Former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson officially signed his rookie contract over the weekend, marking the final rookie in the 2026 draft class to sign his rookie deal, according to NFL.com.

Simpson's contract will be a typical four-year rookie contract, with a fifth-year option for the Los Angeles Rams. Simpson will make $24.5 million over the course of his four-year deal, including a $14.9 million signing bonus. Simpson's contract is fully guaranteed, as is typical with rookie contracts in the NFL. Simpson was drafted by the Rams with the 13th pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft, and was one of two quarterbacks selected in the first round, joining former Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who was the first overall pick to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Fans will have to wait some time before Simpson takes his first reps in the NFL outside of a preseason game, as the Rams signed Super Bowl champion Matthew Stafford to a one-year, $55 million extension this offseason, locking him down to Los Angeles until the 2029 offseason, when Stafford will be 41 years old. Simpson will sit and learn behind Stafford, who is widely considered a Hall of Fame guarantee when he does eventually hang up his cleats.

In 2025, Simpson won Alabama's starting quarterback job, where he led the Crimson Tide to an 11-4 record, an appearance in the SEC Championship against Georgia, a victory in the College Football Playoff against Oklahoma, and an appearance in the CFP Quarterfinals in the Rose Bowl against Indiana.
