DeVonta Smith Returns to Tuscaloosa
DeVonta Smith has declared he will return to Tuscaloosa for his senior season. Smith led the Crimson Tide in receiving yards and touchdowns in the 2019 season with 1,256 and 14 respectively. The 2020 NFL draft class is loaded with quality wide receivers and should Smith have a strong 2020 season he would see himself move to the top of the 2021 draft class.
Smith was a four-star recruit out of Amite High School in Amite, Louisiana; he was ranked by 247sports as the ninth best wide receiver and the second overall prospect out of the state of Louisiana in the 2017 recruiting class. He has improved his receptions, yards and touchdowns in each of his three seasons at the Capstone. He currently sits in 10th place in Alabama all-time receptions with 118, sixth place in all-time receiving yards with 2,109 and fourth place all-time in receiving touchdowns with 23.
With the departure of Jerry Jeudy to the NFL draft, Smith could see an even greater volume of production in the 2020 season. Smith, Alex Leatherwood and Dylan Moses are now set to lead the 2020 Crimson Tide. We still await official decisions from Najee Harris and Henry Ruggs III.
