EXCLUSIVE: Milroe, Braswell Among QB Club Honorees
Though headlined by UGA fan and comedian Jeff Foxworthy, the 2023 Monday Morning Quarterback Club awards banquet at The Club in Birmingham had a distinct Crimson flavor.
The charity organization's SEC Lineman of the Year was Alabama's Chris Braswell. It's Alabama Iron Bowl MVP was Milroe. Another Jaylen, Mr. Mbakwe of Clay-Chalkville High School, was the club's Back of the Year. He will display his talents at his future home, Bryant-Denny Stadium, when he faces Saraland for the 6A stae championship.
Foxworthy had two separate pleas during the event: one each to Auburn and Alabama.
To Auburn receiver and the club's Iron Bowl co-MVP Ja'Varrius Johnson, Foxworthy was blunt: "You had ONE JOB. Fourth and 31 and you rush TWO PEOPLE?"
That drew laughs, but so did this Foxworthy gem to Milroe: "Jalen, after y'all win the Natty, will you PLEASE TELL YOUR COACH IT'S TIME TO RETURE?"
Spoken like a true Bulldog who knows Nick Saban still owns Kirby Smart.
Other honorees were SEC Back of the Year Jayden Daniels of LSU [who was not present], High School Lineman of the Year Jordan Ross of Vestavia [who is committed to Tennessee} and Mountain Brook soccer player Will Nichols, named winner of the Edgar Welden Scholarship. Nichols has battled kidney cancer his entire life, and though a lifelong Bama fan, will attend Ole Miss.
[NOTE: This author and his lovely wife Patti pictured above with Milroe don't normally hang out at The Club. Thanks to good friend Dick Coffee III for the invite.]
