Hot Off the Presses: ‘Fire Pete’ Golding Shirts Made Possible by Alabama Football Alumnus

Ever since Pete Golding was named the Defensive Coordinator of the Crimson Tide, he hasn't been able to avoid criticism from Alabama fans. This past weekend's loss to the Texas A&M Aggies brought about the same phrase on many social media sites:

"Fire Pete Golding."

But now, Tide fans might be able to send their message of displeasure in person. Recently, a new shirt has emerged, bearing the iconic saying, albeit appearing in a shorter form:

This shirt isn't being made by the normal Alabama fan either. The creation of this shirt comes from a former Alabama player by the name of Marvin Constant, who is remembered by Tide fans for a game-saving tackle against LSU in 1999.

Golding's tenure began in 2019 and controversy started early with Alabama losing to LSU 46-41. Things didn't get any easier, as the Tide failed to beat their rival in Auburn 48-45. That loss even created a change.org petition to fire the first-year defensive coordinator.

Throughout the Crimson Tide's 2020 season, the phrase remained. It made its appearance once again early in the season during the Alabama and Ole Miss shootout, where the back and forth contest ended with the Tide outlasting the Rebels 63-48.

In 2021, the voices of Tide fans have grown louder. In the first two SEC contests for Alabama, Florida came close to pulling off the upset and amassed 440 total yards of offense.

While the Aggies gained fewer overall total yards than Florida (379) the upset still came thanks to one field goal. Now with the SEC season in progress, it's highly likely Golding will see this shirt in the stands of Bryant-Denny.
