Former Alabama DL Likely to be Traded
Alabama defensive linemen litter the NFL as superstars, but before their days in the league, they shined for Alabama on Saturdays in the Fall.

Jonathan Allen was no different. A senior leader at Alabama in 2016, Allen racked up the accolades in 2016 as Alabama made an appearance in the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship before falling to Clemson. During his senior season, Allen won:
The Bronko Naguski Trophy
The Chuck Bednarik Award
The Lombardi Award
Unanimous All-American
In 2016, Allen totaled 69 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, two defensive touchdowns, and two pass breakups.
His star-studded Alabama career led to Allen being drafted in the first round, No. 17 overall, by the Washington Commanders in 2017.
Since 2017, Allen has been a formidable force along the front four for Washington. starting 108 of 109 possible games with 401 total tackles, 42 sacks, 60 tackles for loss, 118 quarterback hits, five passes defended, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. He was a two-time Pro Bowler in 2021 and 2022.
Allen, who is 30 years old, is preparing for the next level in his career, with the Washington Commanders agreeing to let him seek a trade from Washington.
Allen has one year left on his contract, totaling $15.5 million in 2025. If the Commanders decided to cut Allen and allow him to sign with whatever team he wanted, he would cost $6 million against the cap for Washington even if he does not play for them in 2025.
