Former Alabama DL Signs Major Extension
The 2024 NFL draft has concluded, and with it, the final draft class of Nick Saban's career at Alabama. Coach Saban was known for his defense, and his final draft was no different. Alabama had two first-round picks along the defense, and six total draft picks on defense in 2024.
Three of those picks were along the defensive line and edge rushers. Dallas Turner, Chris Braswell, and Justin Eboigbe were the front seven contenders that Alabama put into the NFL in 2024. Alabama has a history of putting talented defensive linemen and edge rushers in the NFL, with members like Jonathan Allen, Quinnen Williams, Daron Payne, and Will Anderson Jr., among others, wrecking offensive lines in the NFL.
Christian Barmore was an expected first-round pick after his dominant ascension during Alabama's national championship run in the 2020 College Football Playoff. Barmore slid into the second round, where he was selected by the New England Patriots. During his time in New England, Barmore totaled 133 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, 32 quarterback hits, nine passes batted down, and one forced fumble. Barmore burst onto the scene in New England with 8.5 sacks in 2023.
Now, Barmore has been rewarded for his defensive efforts in New England, signing a four-year contract extension worth $92 million according to Adam Schefter and ESPN.
Barmore has quietly been one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, and with the retirement of Rams superstar Aaron Donald, the title of best defensive tackle in the NFL is up for grabs. Expect Barmore and former Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to compete for that title.
