Former Alabama Running Back Has Huge Night For Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Bearcats throttled the East Carolina Pirates  to the tune of 55-17, and one former Alabama running back played a key role in acquiring the Bearcats their seventh straight win of the season. 

Jerome Ford contributed two touchdowns and 54 yards rushing on seven carries, making the most of his touches in a deep Bearcats running back rotation. 

Ford’s biggest play came on an explosive 24-yard rushing touchdown midway through the second quarter. With the score still close at 14-7, Ford took an inside handoff and cut it outside, weaving through defenders for  the score that helped the Bearcats pull away from the Pirates. Ford would later pound in a 1-yard touchdown to stretch the score to 49-10. 

Through seven games, the Alabama transfer is third on the team in rushing yards with 324 yards on 50 attempts for an average of 6.5 yards a carry. In addition, he is third in rushing touchdowns with six behind co-starting running back Gerrid Doaks and Bearcats quarterback phenom Desmond Ridder. 

Ford was a four star all-purpose back coming out of Armwood High School in Tampa, Florida in 2018. After seeing minimal playing time in a deep Alabama running back stable that included the likes of Damien Harris, Josh Jacobs, and Najee Harris, Ford transferred to Cincinnati and immediately made an impact, contributing 114 yards and three touchdowns in his first year. 

Cincinnati is currently the No. 7 team in the nation and is a playoff hopeful if they can end the season undefeated. The Bearcats will end the season with three straight away games against tough teams like UCF, Temple, and Tulsa.
