Former Crimson Tide Coach Suffers Seizure Ahead of MAC Media Days
Central Michigan coach Jim McElwain suffered a seizure on Sunday that will prevent the former Crimson Tide offensive coordinator from attending the Mid American Conference Media Days this week.
McElwain reported that he is currently fine but staying in the hospital to undergo testing and therefore is unable to attend Tuesday's event in Cleveland to kick off the MAC season.
McElwain has been on quite a coaching journey throughout his career but has spent his last three seasons in charge of the Central Michigan Chippewas for the last three seasons. He's tallied a 20-13 record over three seasons but led CMU to a MAC West division title in 2021 and a Sun Bowl victory over Washington State.
He spent four seasons in Tuscaloosa as Nick Saban's second offensive coordinator at The Capstone. Alabama won two national championships under his watch and tallied a record of 48-6 while he called plays. McElwain was also in charge of the offense for the Tide's first Heisman Trophy winner, Mark Ingram.
After leaving the Tide, McElwain took a head coaching jobs at Colorado State and Florida and then became wide receivers coach at Michigan before landing his current job at Central Michigan.
