Ty Simpson yet again tossed two touchdowns for the Crimson Tide, increasing his season total to 18 passing touchdowns, more than the Crimson Tide had all of last season. His 253 yards helped propel the Crimson Tide over his home-state team. Ryan Williams caught all five of his targets for 87 yards, and defensively, Alabama had a breakout star in redshirt sophomore Yhonzae Pierre, who notched 2.5 sacks, including a safety, in the first half against Tennessee. Zabien Brown flipped the script for the Crimson Tide against the Volunteers with a 99-yard pick-six just before halftime, which ended up being the game-sealing score, giving the Tide a 23-7 lead at halftime.
