True Leadership: Audience of One
A lot can, and will, be said about Germie Bernard, Alabama's standout wide receiver. One thing that is for certain and should be said, is that this young man is a true leader, on and off the field.
Bernard took to social media per his instagram page this past Friday, to post about an event he would be hosting entitled 'Audience of One', on Sunday Oct. 26 in Bryant Denny's north end-zone. The event took place yesterday and was a sight to see. An estimated 1000+ students gathered, (myself included), to share in the light of worship and hearing the testimonies of not only Bernard, but other Alabama players as well.
Ty Simpson, Isaiah Horton, Tim Keenan, and Wilkin Formby, were all participants in sharing their faith and testimonies to the 1000+ students in attendance. The common theme from all of their testimonies was that they are Christians first, football players second, and by leaning into their faith, they perform better.
As someone in attendance, the event was beautiful and moving. All were welcomed and including to those who may not be Christians themselves, but through this event were able to experience the love of God led by the people they look up too. Alabama football players.
After being around this team the past few months, it is no surprise the success these players are having on the field. Throughout all off season this team has been outspoken about their faith, especially Bernard, who is referred to by teammates as their 'chaplain'. Even throughout the rough start, they never wavered, and have now done something that no other team in the SEC has ever been able to accomplish; beating four ranked teams consecutively without a bye week between any of them. Ty Simpson even stated as much last night saying, "Even through losing to Florida State and a close win against South Carolina, we know who we can count on." (Referring to Jesus). It's clear where the strength and bond of this team comes from and it is a light to see in a difficult world.
