Germie Bernard Calls Tennessee Secondary a “Field of Dreams”
Alabama has one of the most talented wide receiver rooms in college football, with senior Germie Bernard, junior Isaiah Horton, and sophomore Ryan Williams leading the charge for the Crimson Tide as the top three pass catchers for quarterback Ty Simpson.

So far this season, the three Crimson Tide wideouts have combined for 70 catches for 1,018 yards and 12 touchdowns (roughly 60% of Ty Simpson's yardage production and 75% of his touchdown production). All three receivers have different ways they can beat defensive backs, which makes it difficult for opposing coordinators to figure out how to stop the high-flying passing attack.
That's the challenge Tim Banks and the Tennessee defense will face on Saturday as they come to Bryant-Denny Stadium for the Third Saturday in October rivalry between the Crimson Tide and the Volunteers. They'll have to try and slow down a confident Alabama receiver group, which boasts the third-most passing yards per game in the SEC (304.5 ypg). Bernard showed that confidence on Monday in an interview with The Next Round.
"They like to play man-to-man, they want to bring the house," Bernard said. "So it's a great opportunity for our offense. They give a lot of yards, but that's because they trust and believe in their guys to get the job done.
"For us to have that opportunity to go against man-to-man, it's a field of dreams, man. That's what receivers want, those one-to-one matchups. It's gonna be up to us to go out there and make the plays."
While the Volunteers' passing offense ranks first in the SEC (317.8 ypg), the passing defense is the worst in the conference (257.8 ypg). There will be plenty of opportunities for the Crimson Tide's offense, and it will be up to Ty Simpson and the plethora of talent at wide receiver to take advantage.
No. 6 Alabama will return home this weekend to take on the No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers, who defeated Arkansas 34-31 on Saturday.
