According to ESPN's Adam Schefter via Ha Ha Clinton-Dix's agency, Sports Trust Advisors, the former Alabama Crimson Tide safety has signed with the San Francisco 49ers.

Details on his new contract have yet to be revealed.

This was the fourth reported opportunity for Clinton-Dix this offseason. In March he tried out for the Las Vegas Raiders, in May he tried out for the Houston Texans and in June he tried out for the Carolina Panthers alongside TJ Yeldon. Each time, he left without a deal.

Now, with a home in San Francisco, he joins fellow safety Jared Mayden as the only Alabama Crimson Tide alumni on the 49ers roster. The teams current starting safety duo is Jaquiski Tartt, who is currently on the physically unable to perform list, at strong and Jimmie Ward at free. Clinton-Dix figures to provide depth once Tartt is healthy since he's shown to be versatile enough to play either safety position in his NFL career.

Clinton-Dix did not play in 2020 after being a surprise cut from the Dallas Cowboys during training camp. He first entered the league in 2014 as a 1st-round pick by the Green Bay Packers where he was a 2016 Pro Bowler. Clinton-Dix last played for the Chicago Bears in 2019 after a quick spin with the Washington Football Team in 2018.

For his career, Clinton-Dix has 522 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, 16 interceptions and 33 pass deflections.

At Alabama, Clinton-Dix recorded 98 tackles and seven interceptions in three seasons. In 2013 he was named first-team All-SEC and a consensus All-American.
