Hillcrest trounced the Prattville Lions on the road this past Friday, 53-28, giving the Patriots their fifth victory of the season.

Hillcrest forced a punt on Prattville's first drive, and the Patriots had an impressive drive that ended inside the five-yard line before fumbling the ball, which Prattville recovered on their two-yard line with 9:25 left in the first quarter.

Hillcrest's defense did not back down, forcing another punt, and the Patriots' offense responded with the first points of the game on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Senior quarterback Bryson Kimbrough to Patriots wide receiver Kahden Smith, followed by a successful two-point conversion on a two-yard rush by Hillcrest wide receiver Jordan-Chambers Smith, giving the Patriots an 8-0 lead with 6:46 left in the first quarter.

Hillcrest's defense held firm, as defensive back Ja'marion Bennet of the Patriots intercepted Pratville's quarterback and returned it 20 yards to give his team excellent field position.

Shortly after the Patriots' interception, Hillcrest running back Jacobi Harris took the pitch on the speed option from Bryson Kimbrough for a 32-yard touchdown, putting the Patriots ahead 15-0 following the successful PAT attempt.

The Patriots' special teams made a major play when Hillcrest's Jordan Steele blocked the Lions' punt, setting the Patriots up in Prattville territory. The very next drive saw another Patriots running back give up a fumble inside the red zone, which Prattville recovered inside the Lions' 20-yard line.

Prattville responded on the next drive, when the Lions' quarterback connected with a wide receiver for a 77-yard touchdown, bringing them within 8 points with 9:19 left in the second quarter.

When the Lions were within 30 yards of tying the game, Hillcrest's defense stepped up. Patriots defensive back Jarvarski Lanier intercepted Prattville's quarterback and returned it for over 30 yards, giving the Patriots a first down on Prattville's 36-yard line.

The Patriots scored 14 unanswered points in the final 5 minutes of the second half, including two magnificent 30-yard passes from quarterback Kimbrough to wide outs Caden Smith and Jordan Smith Chambers, giving Hillcrest a 29-7 lead at halftime.

The second half was similar to the first, with Hillcrest dominating the offensive, scoring 24 points, while the Patriots offense scored two rushing touchdowns, one passing touchdown, and one 29-yard field goal.

Hillcrest's defense remained strong in the second half, with the Patriots starting defense allowing only 14 total points before the backups entered the game, when the Patriots gave up another 28 points, 21 of which came from 70-yard passes in broken coverage or a 30-yard double pass to the endzone.

Player of the Game

Despite the offense's success, with two runningbacks rushing for over 100 yards and two wide receivers scoring two touchdowns, the Patriots do not dominate on offense like they did tonight without Senior quarterback Bryson Kimbrough, who recorded over 150 yards through the air, four passing touchdowns, and 59 rushing yards in the Patriots' victory over the Lions on Thursday night.

Hillcrest will move to 5-4 on the season, with the Patriots seeking to finish with a win. The Patriots will play their final game of the season next Friday, October 25th, 2024, on the road against Oak Mountan after being eliminated from playoff contention.
