Hillcrest High School Falls to Hewitt-Trussville
Hillcrest was on the road this week against Hewitt Trussville in a highly anticipated matchup. Hillcrest High School faced off against Hewitt-Trussville on Friday night, ultimately falling 37-16. Despite a spirited performance, the Patriots struggled to keep pace with the dynamic Hewitt-Trussville offense.
The first half was very offensively oriented as Hillcrest accrued 298 total yards in the first half, with 183 passing and 115 on the ground. Hillcrest had 0 turnovers in the first half which is what every coach loves to see out of their offense.
Hillcrest offensively has had success with the speed option with Kimbrough, which Hewitt-Trussville had trouble stopping all night.
Defensively, Hillcrest made some key stops, but inconsistency proved costly. The Patriots struggled to sustain momentum, and penalties further hindered their efforts. As the clock wound down, Hillcrest’s attempts to rally fell short, sealing the game at 37-16. This is the 3rd loss for Hillcrest this season.
7A football is a lot tougher than 6A, and Hillcrest has been on the wrong end of several "Welcome to 7A" games so far this season. Hillcrest will host Hueytown next week in what could be a "must-win" game this early in the season for the Patriots.
