Senior pitcher Alexis Osorio’s historic weekend in the circle at the Easton Crimson Classic has earned recognition at both the conference and national level. She is this week’s Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, USA Softball Player of the Week and the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Pitcher of the Week.

This is Osorio’s second career award from the NFCA and USA Softball, after earning the weekly accolades on March 14 last season. It is the seventh NFCA weekly award in program history and 10th from USA Softball, but just the sixth time a UA player has won both awards in the same week. The conference accolade is the second this season for Osorio and the sixth of her career. Overall, Alabama has earned SEC Pitcher of the Week 38 times in program history.

Last Friday against Boston College, Osorio opened the weekend throwing the seventh no-hitter of her career and 35th in program history, striking out 11 while allowing just two baserunners. The following day against Fordham, she set a new single-game school record and tied the NCAA record for strikeouts in a seven-inning game with 21, becoming just the second player in NCAA history to do so. The total surpassed her previous school record of 19 and gives her five of the top seven single-game strikeout performances in program history. Osorio capped the weekend with a three-pitch save Sunday against Samford, retiring the final batter in the 1-0 win with three swinging strikes.

So far this season, Osorio is 5-3 with a 1.85 ERA, striking out 93 batters over 53.0 innings pitched for an average of 1.75 per inning. She is just 50 strikeouts away from passing Jaclyn Traina (2011-14) on the career strikeout list at Alabama and 73 away from her 1,000th career strikeout.

Osorio and the Crimson Tide resume action Wednesday, March 14 in Atlanta facing Georgia Tech before opening conference play with a three-game road series at Auburn starting Friday, March 16.
