Earlier this week, Howard Schnellenberger made some comments about Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban that not many would ever dare make. He criticized Saban's coaching during this year's Iron Bowl and said that the result of the big game was "the greatest thing in the world" that could happen to Saban.

Schnellenberger also said that "(Saban) needed a big serving of humility," while accusing the Alabama head coach of being arrogant, and referring to him as "Mr. Perfect." Click here for the interview.

This evening, Coach Schnellenberger joined us on "The Game" to discuss some football, mainly the most recent Iron Bowl classic.

"It was a great game, one of the best games of the year... decided on a very unusual play."

"Unusual" might be the mildest adjective that's been used to describe that game. However, Schnellenberger used this word because of his opinion about how the Alabama coaching staff (mainly Nick Saban) handled the ball game.

Taken out of context, Schnellenberger's comments seem harsh and mean-spirited toward the 4 time BCS champion coach, but when he was given the opportunity to clarify his words, he was only using the medium to express his concern about Saban learning from his mistakes.

"I was referring to all of us coaches. It doesn't matter how many games we win or how many opportunities we have, we're going to be put in situations where we make mistakes or we get beat or we have a terrible season."

"Obviously there were some mistakes made, and certainly wasn't anything dramatic or tough about it. The decision was made... you have to understand that there will probably be a return."
