The Alabama Crimson Tide closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon against in-state rival Auburn, with a resounding 49-0 victory.  Now the question arises, can Alabama continue that dominating play in the SEC Championship game against the Georgia Bulldogs.  While that question is still up in the air, here is a look back at Alabama’s victory in the 77th edition of the Iron Bowl with 3 quick thoughts.

1. Amari Cooper
Don’t look know but he is within striking distance of Julio Jones freshman receiving record of 924 yards ( Cooper has 767 yards and 8 touchdowns, four more than Jones) which raises the question: will he go down as Alabama’s best freshman receiver? I think he will.  Cooper will need to continue to elevate his game on the SEC Championship stage, especially with Kenny Bell’s injury.

2. Alabama’s Offense is Stepping Up
After the Texas A&M game, I have got the impression that the Alabama offense is out to prove a point. Not only has Alabama put the ball in the endzone at ease, but there seems to be a recommitment to the running game.  In the past two games the Tide have rushed for nearly 600 yards and 8 touchdowns.  That is Alabama football.

3. AJ McCarron is quietly working his way back into Heisman discussion.
The likelihood of him winning the award is not very high, but with Saturday’s 216 yard, 4 touchdown performance he may be getting closer to an invitation to New York. If he is able to assemble a good stat line this weekend, that invitation may become more of a reality.
