
Former Alabama Running Back Jahmyr Gibbs Signs Record-Breaking Extension with Lions
Former Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs has signed a record-breaking contract extension with the Detroit Lions, signing a 3-year, $75.75 million extension with $51.5 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history, according to Ian Rapoport.

Gibbs is now the highest-paid running back in NFL history in terms of average per year:
- Jahmyr Gibbs - $22.5M
- Bijan Robinson: $22.25M
- Jonathan Taylor: $22M
- Saquon Barkley: $20.6M
- Christian McCaffrey: $19M
- Devon Achane: $16M
- Derrick Henry: $15M
- Breece Hall: $14.5M
Gibbs is fresh off his third season in the NFL, where he was 7th in the league in rushing yardage with 1,223 yards and tied for fourth in the NFL in rushing touchdowns with 13. He also caught 77 passes for 616 yards and 5 touchdowns last season. His top performance came in a 34-27 overtime victory against the New York Giants, where he rushed for 219 yards (14.6 yards per carry) and 2 touchdowns while collecting 11 passes for 45 yards and another touchdown.
The Lions drafted Gibbs with their first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft out of Alabama, and despite only spending one season in Tuscaloosa, Gibbs was still a force with the Crimson Tide, rushing for 926 yards and 7 touchdowns while hauling in 44 receptions for 444 yards and 3 touchdowns.
