Former Crimson Tide running back Jahmyr Gibbs has been announced as the ninth-best player of 2026 according to the NFL's Top 100 Players of the 2025 season.

Gibbs joins a slew of former Alabama players on the list, including Derrick Henry, Josh Jacobs, Bryce Young, and Pat Surtain II. Gibbs started his career with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in 2020, where he played seven games and totaled 460 rushing yards on 89 attempts and four scores on the ground. He also caught 24 passes for 303 yards and three touchdowns. In his second year with the Yellow Jackets, Gibbs played 12 games, rushing for 746 yards and four touchdowns on 143 attempts. Gibbs was also a threat through the passing game once again with 35 catches for 465 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 13.3 yards per catch.

 

Just ahead of the 2022 season, Gibbs transferred to the University of Alabama, where he had his best season on the ground. Gibbs bolstered the offense with 926 rushing yards and a college career high of seven rushing touchdowns on 151 attempts. He also brought in 44 receptions for 444 yards and three more scores through the air. Gibbs finished his college career with a total of 2,132 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns on 383 carries. Gibbs was named third-team All-American and second-team All-SEC.

 

Gibbs was selected ninth overall in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. In his rookie year, Gibbs saw playing time in 15 games but only got the start in three. While sitting behind then-starting RB David Montgomery, Gibbs proved his worth, rushing for 945 yards on 182 attempts and scoring 10 times on the ground. His best season came in 2024, when he ran for a career-high 1,412 yards and 16 touchdowns on 250 attempts. He was named to the Pro Bowl following the conclusion of the 2024 season.

 

Gibbs followed up with once again another great season, rushing for 1,223 yards and 13 scores on the ground on 243 attempts. On April 28th, 2026, the Lions picked up the fifth-year option on his contract. On August 6th, the Lions and Gibbs agreed to a three-year extension worth $67.5 million with $51.5 million guaranteed.
