Bernard Says Shephard Coaches with “Tough Love”
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer is typically known for his calmer demeanor on the sidelines, although the same can't be said for his assistant coaches. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, this offseason, was called the "bad cop" to Kalen DeBoer's "good cop," and we've seen plenty of passionate outbursts from defensive line coach Freddie Roach during media-available practices.

Wide receiver's coach Jamarcus Shephard is known for his emotional speeches and passionate outbursts, a stark contrast to his employer, but in a good way. Shephard was once again spotted having words directed at the Alabama wide receiver group, specifically Isaiah Horton, during the second half of the Tide's 27-24 victory over the Missouri Tigers.
"It’s tough love," Bernard said of the sideline moment with Shephard. "He has a standard for us, and we’re not playing up to the standard, and he’s going to let us have it. Obviously, people have seen that on Saturday during the game. We get that from him every day, so it’s not nothing new to us. We just know we have to play better, execute better. That’s all."
Alabama boasts one of the deepest receiver rooms in the country, with the Crimson Tide having the third-ranked passing offense in the SEC with 304.5 yards per game. Tennessee's defense, on the other hand, has one of the weakest pass defenses in the country, allowing 257.8 yards per game (121st).
No. 6 Alabama will return home this weekend to take on the No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers, who defeated Arkansas 34-31 on Saturday.
