The New York Jets traded cornerback Michael Carter and a 2027 7th-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for former Alabama Wide Receiver John Metchie III and a 2027 sixth-round pick, according to reports. Metchie was not able to carve out a big role with the Eagles this year, having to play behind three-time Pro Bowl player A.J. Brown and former Alabama standout DeVonta Smith. With several injuries hindering the Jets' receiving core, Metchie should be seeing more minutes and touches to show the league his skillset, which he demonstrated during his time with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

In Metchie's 30 games at Alabama, he racked up 155 receptions with 2,081 receiving yards, with an average of 13.4 yards per reception, adding a total of 14 touchdowns. His best season by far came during his junior year (his last year) in 2021. Mechie caught 96 passes for 1,142 yards, averaging 11.9 yards per reception, and 87.8 yards a game, adding eight touchdowns. Metchie suffered a torn ACL in the 2021 SEC Championship game against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Metchie's three years in the NFL have been a sample size of what he showed us at Alabama. He has totaled 44 receptions with 430 yards and one touchdown. The Jets being 1-7 already puts Menchie in a better position to get more in-game reps than playing with a stacked, contending Eagles team. As mentioned, there is an injury to the New York Jets receiver Garrett Wilson, which should be pushing Metchie into the starting lineup for the time being, as there is no set time for Wilson to come back.
