Justin Thomas Becomes Alabama’s All-Time Leader in PGA Tour Wins with Victory at WGC-Bridgestone Invitational
Former Alabama men’s golfer Justin Thomas claimed a four-shot win at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational on Sunday afternoon, finishing the four day, 72-hole event with a 15-under par 265.
With his third title of the season, Thomas now has nine career wins to move past former Crimson Tide standout Jerry Pate as Alabama’s leader in career PGA Tour victories. Pate finished with 15 professional wins, eight of which came on the PGA Tour.
That wasn’t the only history he made on Sunday. Thomas, 25, became the fifth-youngest player to win a FedExCup, major championship and World Golf Championship title.
Thomas now has eight wins over the last two years, putting him one ahead of Dustin Johnson for the most titles during that span. He joined an elite group of four players who in the last 30 years have won nine or more PGA Tour titles before age 26 - Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy.
Thomas will look to carry the momentum into next week as he defends his title at the PGA Championship.
