Thursday afternoon, Howard Eskin, a longtime member of the Philadelphia media in radio and television reported that recently hired Eagles coach Chip Kelly could target two college defensive coordinators to fill the same role in the city of brotherly love-one of which was Alabama's Kirby Smart.

Smart, a longtime assistant under current Alabama head coach Nick Saban has long been rumored with coaching vacancies around the country. While the majority of the rumors swirled around programs at the collegiate ranks, most recently at Auburn, it marked one of the first times his name has ever been associated with a position in the National Football League. Although the majority of his tenure has taken place in the collegiate ranks, Smart has also spent one season in the professional ranks, coaching safeties on the 2006 Miami Dolphins.

While the reports have made their rounds during the college football world during the off season, BamaOnLine.com's Travis Reier joined The Game and said that where there is smoke, there may not be fire.

The other name associated with the report was Georgia defensive Coordinator Todd Grantham, who spent eight years coaching in the National Football League.
