Labaron Philon NBA Summer League Week 1 Recap

Former Alabama guard Labaron Philon made his summer league debut for the Philadelphia 76ers last week with a pair of strong performances. The 22nd pick played two games, averaging 21 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1 steal on 37/40/50 splits.

In his first game on Thursday against the Pistons, he went for 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 7 assists, struggling from the field (31.6%), but was still a positive for his team in the win. In game two against the Pacers, he went for 24, 3, and 6, making vital momentum plays in the overtime victory.

Philon displayed confidence, not letting missed shots deter him from putting up his next shot. In both games, he showcased his ability to move to the right place when his teammate does a dribble drive, setting a three-pointer up for him, and burying them whether open or contested. He also showed a very strong handle and ball control, limiting turnovers and getting to his spot in the in-between area. We got to see his work in the two-man game off pick and rolls, setting up former Auburn forward Johni Broome with so many great scoring opportunities, but also knowing when he is not open and swinging it to the open man on the wing or in the corner. Finally, he showed his ability to get to the rim and score, but he often avoided contact, where a lot of the time he could have drawn a foul to get extra points.
