Lacy Headlines 2nd Pro Day
The University of Alabama held its second Pro Day of 2013 on Thursday with nine draft-eligible Crimson Tide players participating and roughly 20 NFL teams in attendance.
Alabama’s second pro day gave Eddie Lacy, Damion Square and Nico Johnson a final chance to work out on campus and demonstrate their skills for NFL coaches and scouts after injuries kept them out of the Tide’s first Pro Day on March 13.
“I feel like my 40 time was the most important thing they wanted to see,” Lacy said. ““They wanted to see if I could catch, if I was a good (receiver), and I think I proved that today.”
Lacy’s times in the 40-yard dash ranged from 4.57-4.63 while posting a broad jump of 9 feet, 7 inches and a vertical of 33.5 inches.
While the times were on par with what was expected, some in attendance, including NFL Network's Bucky Brooks questioned the Alabama running back's conditioning, noting his inability to finish and lack of explosiveness in some of the positional workouts.
Regardless, with a sub 4.6 forty yard dash time, ability to catch the ball and limited carries during his collegiate career, not much should change as it pertains to Lacy-projected as a late first to second round pick.
Damion Square and Nico Johnson also spoke to the media following their workouts as Square relayed he had been told he ran in the 5.1 range at 299lbs, while Johnson said he felt he ran better than his first pro day. After the event, the Senior Bowl twitter feed reported they had clocked the inside linebacker at 4.75 and 4.81 seconds, securing a projection in the 3rd through 5th rounds.
The nine Alabama players that participated in some part of the Tide’s second Pro Day on Thursday include, Lacy, Square, Nico Johnson, D.J. Fluker, Michael Williams, Kelly Johnson, Carson Tinker, Robert Lester and Ranzell Watkins.
Fluker worked in with a short shuttle, while Williams, Kelley Johnson, Tinker, Lester, and Watkins participated in position drills.
The NFL Draft will be held April 25-27 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
