Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin will miss the season opener against the Louisville Cardinals after testing positive for COVID-19. Kiffin is vaccinated, as is the entire Ole Miss football program. The news was first reported by ESPN.

Ole Miss has not yet announced an interim head coach for the game.

Kiffin said on ESPN College Gameday he began feeling symptoms Thursday and that it was tough to tell his team of the situation.

"It's very disappointing to get it because I'm 100% vaccinated, I don't go anywhere except the office and home," Kiffin said Saturday morning. "Had we not been [100% vaccinated] we'd have a lot of close contacts, shut down and not playing in this game."

Ole Miss plays Louisville Monday night in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
