The story was supposed to be a Hollywood ending for the troubled coach. As Lane Kiffin departed the hills of Tennessee and boarded a plane headed west to Southern California it was supposed to be a happy ending.

However, shortly after accepting the job, the man who hired him, Mike Garret was fired in favor of the straight-laced Pat Haden.  Now, with the exception of the 2010 season, success hasn't come as easily as Kiffin may have anticipated-winning just 25 games in his three seasons.

While things have not gone as planned, there was no greater dissapointment than this past season. Preseason magazines projected the Trojans to take their talents to South Beach to compete for the national title as the roster was loaded with the likes of Matt Barkley, Robert Woods, and Marquise Lee.

However, it was evident the 2012 Trojans just didn't have what it took.  Much of the blame fell on Kiffin's shoulders.

With his seat getting hot under the Southern California sun, Kiffin has been thinking about where he could land if things don't work out at USC. In a recent interview with Ralph Rousso of the Associated Press, Kiffin mentioned he may be coming to a high school sideline near you.

I did think the other day what it would be like to be a high school head coach or to be at a small school. I thought about it the other day. The first time. I wonder if there's something to that peace of mind. Maybe it's something I can go back and do when I get older. I'm going to go coach high school."

While Kiffin may not be planning to coach high school football for a few more years if he doesn't get things turned around with the Trojans, those plans may be expidited.  WIth his lack of success in the National Football League, troubling departure from the Tennnessee Volunteers, and now struggles at Southern Cal-its hard to imagine there will be a line of suitors waiting for him if he falls.

Life in Los Angeles was supposed to be a story of happily ever after, but sometimes the script changes. Could the script lead back to high school?

Only time will tell.
