Levi Randolph Becomes Alabama Basketball’s First Academic All-American
Alabama senior Levi Randolph was named an Academic All-American on Thursday, making him the first player in school history to earn that honor.
The team captain received the news that he earned a spot on the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-American Second Team, which has been one of his career goals.
“I can’t put into words how honored I am to earn the program’s first Academic All-American award,” Randolph said in a school release. “I would like to thank my family, coaches and teammates for their support during my career and helping push me – not just as a basketball player but as a student-athlete. It feels good to see the hard work I’ve put in both on and off the court has paid off and helped me achieve this goal. My father always told me that a person can stand on a book a lot longer than they can stand on a basketball ball and that’s just always something I’ve lived by.”
Randoph's success in the classroom has been one the highlights of an impressive four-year career in Tuscaloosa. He had already become the first player in program history to earn Capital One Academic All-District IV First Team honors three consecutive years (2011-2013).
The Madison, Ala., native has led the way on the court as well for Alabama. He currently leads the team in scoring (14.8 ppg), assists (2.4 per game), and steals (1.4 per game), while his five rebounds per game is good for second on Anthony Grant's team. Randolph will be playing in the final home game of his career against Ole Miss on Tuesday night.
