When Nick Saban stands behind the microphone at a press conference, you never know how it's going to go. He could be relaxed and making jokes. He might be ready to go off on a topic if presented the right opportunity. Or sometimes, like Wednesday, he might tell a story that gives you a little better idea of what made him the driven person he is today.

When a question came up about Hurricane Harvey, which damaged much of the region that Alabama is headed to this weekend, Saban reached back to his gas station days in West Virginia for a classic story about a childhood breakup.

"It's kind of like my dad used to tell me when I used to go to work at the station," Saban began. "My girlfriend broke up with me so I was treating the customers bad. He said, 'What's wrong with you today?' And I said, 'My girlfriend broke up with me.' He said, 'Well you have one problem, but if you keep treating the customers bad you're going to have two more. I'm going to fire you and then I'm going to whip your ass for getting fired. So you're not going to have a girlfriend, you're not going to have a job, and you're going to get your tail whipped.'"

Listen to him tell the story and tie it back into the original question in the video above.
