LSU Fined Quarter of a Million Dollars

LSU Tiger fans were upset on Saturday night as they watched their beloved Tigers get dominated by the Alabama Crimson Tide 42-13 to hand LSU its third loss of the season and second loss in SEC play.

LSU fans were particularly upset when the Tigers were penalized for a facemask in the third quarter on a sack by Sai'vion Jones on Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. It would have forced an Alabama punt, but the facemask penalty gave Alabama an automatic first down. Alabama would later score on the drive to extend its lead to 28-6, effectively killing almost any chance the Tigers had at a comeback.

Tiger fans were upset at the call, and it resulted in fans across the stadium, but primarily the student section, throwing trash on the field. This is after Texas fans threw trash on the field and got a call overturned earlier in the season when Texas lost to Georgia on October 19.

As a result of fans throwing trash onto the field, the SEC has fined LSU $250,000 for the actions of the fans.

The fine will be paid to the SEC's post-graduate scholarship program, as opposed to being paid to the University of Alabama.

Alabama was paid $100,000 from the Vanderbilt Commodores after Vanderbilt stormed the field following the Commodores' 40-35 win over Alabama, and Tennessee had to pay Alabama $100,000 following a 24-17 victory over the Crimson Tide.

Field- and court-storming fines are paid to the opposing team, while other sportsmanship violations are paid to the SEC.
